German Quarterly seeks a new editor or editors

The AATG invites applications and nominations for the position of Editor of The German Quarterly, a peer-reviewed journal established in 1928 and published four times a year. We also welcome submissions for co-editorship. The German Quarterly is a premier journal in the field of German Studies with a broad national and international circulation. It includes scholarship on German-language literatures, cultures, film and media from the Middle Ages to the present, as well as comparative and interdisciplinary articles that are relevant to the field.

The ideal candidate has an established reputation as a scholar in the field of German-language literature and culture, as well as editorial experience. Familiarity with digital-first publishing is highly desirable. The new editor, or co-editors will begin serving in Fall 2024. The initial appointment is for three years, renewable for a second term. The editorship is a voluntary position and carries no salary.

Applicants will be asked to submit a curriculum vitae and a cover statement as a letter of interest explaining in detail their qualifications and plans for the editorship. The cover statement should also include a clear articulation of the candidate's views on the journal's role in fostering diversity and inclusiveness in German Studies. Please consult the AATG's policies here. When possible, the application should be accompanied by a letter of support from an administrative dean and one from the candidate's department chair. Minimal support might include an up-to-date computer with software, release time, and an editorial assistant. In the case of nominations, please confirm with the candidate in advance that s/he is | they are willing to serve as editor(s). All materials should be submitted through the application portal here. For priority consideration, please submit all materials by April 15, 2024. Review will begin immediately and will continue until the position is filled.
